When Bit Buddy first launched, it was a simple device logger and list. You could enter extra details for each drive, but functionality was limited. Over time, new features were added, including Tips, SD Card Pool, Cloud Providers, Widgets, Maintenance tracking, Parent and Child device relationships, and more.
Then came Bit Buddy 2, the biggest update yet. It introduced a complete redesign across the app and significantly expanded most of the existing features.
Now, Bit Buddy 3 builds on what was once called the biggest upgrade ever and takes it to an entirely new level.
A Complete Redesign, Again
Bit Buddy 3 has been redesigned from the ground up to feel more inviting, intuitive, and insightful. The new onboarding flow guides users through the core features and provides helpful tips for quickly adding their first device.
Open the app and you will notice a dashboard that feels familiar but clearly refreshed. Stats Widgets have been overhauled with new icons, updated colors, and improved layouts. The Storage Usage widget has also been redesigned to deliver more accurate, glanceable insights.
Scroll down and you will find the redesigned Device List, now featuring colored icons, richer detail, and updated list styles. The same visual refresh applies to SD Card Pool, which also gains new styles and refinements. Other views, including Settings and Tips, have been rebuilt to feel consistent and optimized for any screen size.
Adding and editing devices has also been reworked. Alongside the visual changes, several new features have been introduced:
1. Scan Connected Drive and Auto Add
2. Capacity Suggestions
3. AI Name Suggestions
4. No Storage Option
5. Multi Content Type support
6. TB format support
7. Expanded icons and color options
Auto Add allows users with a compatible device, such as iPhone 15 Pro or later, to automatically import external SSD or HDD metadata when connecting and adding a device. File contents are not read. Only the Volume Name, Capacity, and Usage are imported.
Cloud Sync
Bit Buddy 3 introduces Cloud Sync. When enabled, your devices are accessible across your Apple devices.
Because of the potentially sensitive information stored in Bit Buddy, certain fields are intentionally excluded from syncing. These include File Details, Additional Notes, Usage, Location, and Status. This ensures your data remains private and prevents unintended access to sensitive information.

AI Analysis and Collection Health
Bit Buddy 3 embraces the latest technology with AI Drive Analysis and Collection Health.
When enabled, Bit Buddy analyzes your collection using Apple’s on-device Foundation Model, when supported, or a secure cloud-based model. Details about AI-related data handling are available within the app and in the Privacy Policy.
Collection Health evaluates your entire device collection, maintenance schedules, cloud providers, and notes. It then provides actionable insights into gaps, risks, and areas that may require attention. You can access Collection Health directly from the Stats Widgets on the dashboard.
Home Screen Widgets, Cloud Providers, and Tip Guides
Home Screen widgets have not only been redesigned but are now fully configurable. You can tailor your Bit Buddy widget to display the information that matters most to you.
Additional Cloud Providers have also been added to expand flexibility.
Tip Guides have been refreshed with AI-generated tips and curated reading suggestions. To reduce app size, Tips now link directly to the One Thirteen website instead of being bundled within the app.
In-App Feedback Board
This update also introduces a built-in feedback board. Users can submit feature requests, report bugs, and share suggestions directly within the app (hint, hint).
A free UserJot account is required to leave feedback. Accounts can be deleted at any time.
Housekeeping
As with every major update, Bit Buddy 3 includes extensive bug fixes and performance improvements. More than 50 optimizations were made to enhance stability and overall performance.
Wrapping Up
This is Bit Buddy 3. Without question, it is the most significant update in the app’s history. It delivers major quality-of-life improvements, powerful new features, and even a long-awaited addition that had been on my personal feature bucket list.
