Long before I began making applications, I was flying drones. It feels almost inevitable that somewhere along the way the two activities would intersect.
Today I'm introducing Flyby, a pre‑flight companion for drone pilots. Born out of the need and desire to have a unified experience for all pre‑flight information, Flyby aggregates drone‑ready weather data such as wind speed, rain percentage, cloud cover, visibility, magnetic interference, and local airspace information to provide a clear context before you ever take off.
There’s a lot more that Flyby has to offer, and I have a whole series of articles planned to share what the development process was like for Flyby, as well as a series of videos to explain how Flyby works and some of the unique characteristics that Flyby has.
The Core Experience
I won't get into too many details in this article, but Flyby's core experience is centered around the Today tab and the Fly Score. Future articles will explain more in depth about the Fly Score, as well as the change log.
The Fly Score gives a clear go‑no‑go determination before ever taking off. From there, you can check the charts and see what the weather conditions will be like during the proposed flight time. On the Sun tab, you can view the golden hour, blue hour, sunrise, and sunset times. Finally, on the Plan tab, you can choose to plan any of the available flight windows that day. If chosen, Flyby will provide notifications with up‑to‑the‑minute accurate results and condition updates, provided you're within the specified time window.

Beyond the core Flyby experience, I also spent a lot of time building a 3D environment, creating some mini‑games that, in a weird way, help warm up the fingers for drone flying.
