On Moneyminder

Named by Brynne Williams.

It's been a while since the last update for Moneyminder, my upcoming savings goal app for iPhone. Sorry about that. The truth is, I've been slowly working on it, but things haven't felt right for some time. It hasn't felt like the right app to make, even as far back as the beginning stages. So, things are changing.

The old Moneyminder

The previous iteration of Moneyminder relied heavily on the idea of Savings Goals, to the point where they were the only kind of item you created. Everything else lived within one of your Savings Goals. In this version, you'd also be able to created Shared Goals between you and friends/family, which was a lot of work to get running the way I envisioned.

The last major addition I focused on adding, and ironically it's what caused this shift, was Investment Tracking. This feature was, again, a lot of work to get working, but once it was up, it was awesome.

But, it was right at this time that the app started to feel a little too messy. Adding new features was a painstaking process, and things never felt like they were truly optimized. So, that version of Moneyminder will never, and I mean never, be released.

The new Moneyminder

The version that will be released has been completely reworked, going from a savings goal manager to a full expense tracking powerhouse, with savings and shared goals to boot! The app will also feature every feature that the original Moneyminder had, just reimagined in a more intuitive and useful way.

While all of this is very exciting, it does mean that Moneyminder is a little further away than expected. I can't say by how much, mostly because I don't know, but I've been running an internal version of the app with these new features for a number of weeks (and blog posts, now).

Back to work

Okay, that's really all I have to share regarding Moneyminder at the moment. Things are moving quickly, however, and I hope to be back on this very Jotbook posting about the new Moneyminder Beta very, very soon.
