Despite the excitement that always comes with releasing an app on the App Store, of which I now have three, I've never quite "nailed" the launch day. This post comes five days after Cribbo was released to the world. More information can be found here, but in this post I wanted to talk about what's next for Cribbo.
What's coming in the next update
Cribbo launched in a fairly decent state, but I'm not so foolish as to believe that it's perfect. No, in fact, its quite the opposite. Shortly after releasing the app, I noticed several areas that are in desparate need of attention, including the add/edit screens, the icon/category picker, and the filter menu.
In the next update for Cribbo, which is currently being tested, all of those issues, and more, will be addressed. Both the Add and Edit screens have been updated to not only match, but ask for more relevant information. The new Icon/Category picker, which is now combined, works so much better than before (and looks better too!).
Another pain point in Version 1.0 is device filtering. In the next update, filtering will, you know, actually work. Sarcasm aside, I found a critical bug that prevented the list filtering from working properly. Hopefully the issue is fixed. The silver lining? I've also reworked the filtering in Bit Buddy, which should also be updating very soon. 👀
Smaller tweaks include color refinements and UI tweaks, as well as the inclusion of what I call WhatsNewView, which automatically opens after each update. It'll give you the rundown on each new feature added to the app, as well as any announcements or notices.
On Cribbo's price
Cribbo is a very niche app. Like, very niche. So niche that it took some explanation for my friends and family to understand what I meant by "HomeKit code logger." Because of this, I chose to charge $1.99 for Cribbo instead of offering it for free with upgrades. Many comparable apps either charge more or use a subscription model, which can be less appealing to users. I believe a one-time charge feels reasonable and motivates me to keep updating the app, knowing that every user has made an investment.
Stop by the Cribbo
Chances are if you're reading this, you're either interested in Cribbo or other apps like it. I can't speak for other apps, but I can say that Cribbo is exactly what I've been missing from my smart home command belt. Despite the countless others available to download, I truly think Cribbo offers an experience the others don't, or can't, provide.
If you're interested, please consider giving Cribbo a shot. I think you'll really like it.
Okay, that's all for now.
Nick out.
